In the coming season, we’ll be celebrating the 100th birthday of two legendary composers, Thelonious Monk and Leonard Bernstein, with dedicated concert programmes. Chief conductor Jim McNeely has prolonged his contract with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band for another three years: "Again and again, I am stunned by the many exceptional soloists, the quality of the projects and the dedication of the musicians. I am really looking forward to our continuing cooperation."
Upcoming projects of the band in the 2017-18 season range from gospel to experimental avant-garde. Artists like Vincent Peirani, Richard Bona, Cory Henry, Alexander von Schlippenbach and Patti Austin will be joining the band as guest musicians. Band manager Olaf Stötzler is looking forward to the many different stimuli: "Today, Jazz is as diverse as its artists are. Each of our guest musicians has a reputation as a distinguished stylist and will bring in influences from their respective musical cosmoses."
Once again, the Frankfurt Radio Big Band will be performing at the "European Open Air" of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony and European Central Bank at the Weseler Werft. They'll be opening the 48th German Jazz Festival and will be presenting a project at the "cresc... Biennale for Modern Music Frankfurt Rhein Main".
